When I have copper templates sitting on the top layer, which should be connected to other copper templates on inner or bottom layes, I usually dump a number of vias on the copper. If the template is filled, the vias connect automatically to the template net. Thats fine.

Please note that these vias have no tracks connected to them.

Now, if I run the Advanced Router, all these vias disappear immediately, even if I've checked "Lock exsisting". After routing is complete, the vias are still missing, and the templates are now unconnected. The only way I can make the vias stay put, is to lock them all before running the autorouter.

Is this intentional? I believe it's been like that "always" (i.e. at least eight years or so).

Hi Steve,

No, I don't recall that at all. But thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Erik.. If you recall we raised a suggestion log for you on this subject. If you run the advanced router on all nets the un-routed via's will be removed, but if you run first on those nets with un-routed via's they will be locked by 'lock existing', then run the router on all nets. Choosing nets by net class will also stop them being deleted. The log has been changed to a bug for this to be investigated further regarding why they are not fixed on an initial route whole design.
