Pulsonix 7.5 is announced

6-Jan-12 Westdev Ltd announces the release of its latest Pulsonix, version 7.5.

Tewkesbury, UK. (Jan 06, 2012) – Westdev Ltd. – the PCB EDA company delivering technology-leading PCB design solutions today announced the release of its latest Pulsonix, version 7.5.

As part of its on-going forward plan and maintenance, this exciting new version adds many customer-requested features into an interim release. As well as smaller features, Pulsonix 7.5 also includes more significant functionality to add much more value to the existing toolset and further improve its usability. Features such as the Component Variant Spreadsheet, the ability to define Class to Class Matches in Spacing Rules, Pad Style Spacing Shapes and STEP I/O improvements have been added.

Bob Williams, Marketing Director for Pulsonix comments, “without wasting time waiting for a major release to come around, we can release significant changes as they roll out of development into what would have traditionally been a service patch. Our Beta site program allows nominated users to give us feedback at all steps of the features’ lifecycle; from concept to finished option and onto the user’s desk. Developing in the modern style has enabled us to release features significantly earlier”.

Major New Features Overview

The Component Variant Spreadsheet enables already easy-to-use Variants to be added, viewed and edited in a convenient spreadsheet. Where complex multi-variant designs with many different values are to be created, this spreadsheet takes the pressure off making user errors.

For use with the Pulsonix 3D Viewer, new 3D Package Shapes are included for BEAD, MELF, DILSwitch and LEDdisplay. In addition to new shapes, colour-coded bands on components has been enabled. This allows component values to automatically be translated into true colour-coding on the package for items such as resistors, capacitors and diodes.

Class to Class Matches within the Technology Spacing Rules allows complex constraint rules to be created. This takes rules checking to another level of professionalism for modern high-spec designs where inter-class rules are mandated.

Pad Style Spacing Shapes have been added to Pulsonix 7.5 for users considering and designing the IPC-A-610C standard where percentages of movement are permitted during manufacture of surface mounted devices. This new rule allows for extra non-uniform spacing on these pads.

Further to the existing STEP functionality, Pulsonix 7.5 introduces the ability to read and view model colours if defined. On exported designs in the STEP format, unique attributes are included to annotate the design in the mechanical package. This allows refinement of placement to take place where enclosure clash might be an issue. The placement changes can be back-annotated into the PCB where positional changes are made.

With one of the greatest number of very high quality import filters in Pulsonix, version 7.5 releases yet a further addition with the introduction of the Ariadne import. This import works for both Schematic and PCB designs as well as libraries.

Summary:

  • Component Variant Spreadsheet

  • 3D View Colour-coded Bands on Components
  • Spacing Rule Class to Class Match
