Before a symbol is useable, the pin numbers must start from 1 and be sequential.
Use this option to automatically reassign pin numbers for the pads in your symbol, into a logical sequence.

How To Auto Renumber Pins
Auto Renumber Pins is available from the Utilities menu when editing symbols. The command brings up the Auto Renumber Pins dialog.
You can choose which pins to renumber by using the current selection. You can choose to renumber just the selected (or unselected) pins. Of course, those pins which are renumbered will not use numbers already used by those outside the selection.
If the By Location option is not checked. The pin numbers are shifted down, so that gaps in the number sequence are closed, but the order of the pin numbers remain the same.
Checking the By Location option enables the other controls in the dialog. These enable you to renumber the pins according to their physical location in the symbol. The controls are very similar to those used in PCB Auto Rename. The two direction controls allow you to specify the direction of renumbering. The first direction defines the direction of each row or column of pins, the second direction giving the direction further rows or columns are used. With these you can achieve eight different renumbering orders.
Changing the order of subsequent channels to Alternate Directions allows you to reverse the direction of each subsequent channel (either row or column, depending on the first direction).
Spiral In causes the numbering to alternate between rows and columns. For a rectangular component with pins on all four sides, this allows you to number the pins around the component, the direction and first side being determined by the initial direction.

Reverse Left-Right on Bottom allows surface mount pads n the bottom to be renumbered in the reverse left right direction.
The Channel Width allows you to specify the width of the rows and columns of pads, so that pad centres do not have to be exactly aligned to be considered to be within the same row or column.
