How To Use The Dialog
The Library Folders page is available on both the Folders and Libraries dialogs. The pages for the remaining file types are available only within the Folders dialog, and it is this dialog that is shown in the picture below.
The upper area of the dialog shows the folders in which the application will search for the particular type of file. In the example shown, you can see that there are two folders specified for Libraries. When looking for files, the folders will be searched in the order shown in the list, so you can use the Up and Down buttons to control the search order if you need to.
To add a new folder to the list, click on the Add button. To edit an existing folder name, click on the name in the list and press Edit. Both buttons use the Library Folder dialog to set up the folder name.
To delete an entry from the folder list, select the name in the list and press Delete. You will be asked to confirm deletion of this name before the name is actually removed from the list. Note: deleting an entry from the list will not delete any files, it simply removes the reference to that folder so that the application no longer searches the folder when looking for the particular type of files.
Alternatively you can disable a folder by unchecking the Folder Enabled check box.
The Include Subfolders check box will set the selected folder to recursively search through all of its sub-folders to find files. This is helpful because it allows easier organisation of files via the use of sub-folders without needing to add each one separately.
To use the directory of the currently active document as a folder or the base of a path, the Windows standard dot ’.’ can be used. This is helpful for situations where you need different files for different designs. For example, a folder with a path that was simply ’.’ would allow items like libraries and STEP files in the same folder as the design to be found without having to explicitly add the directory where the design is saved.
The Explore button, opens an explorer window in the selected directory.
The lower part of the dialog shows the actual files found in the folders listed at the top of the dialog. These are listed in the order they are found, so that you are able to see the actual order in which the application will search for information. This can be particularly important for Library files, as this allows you to see for example which libraries will be examined first when inserting new components into a design.
Enabled
You can set files so that the application “ignores” them, by clicking on the name of the file in the list and unchecking the Enabled check box.
Enable All
Use the Enable All button to set all files as enabled so the application can see them.
Delete
Delete can be used to delete the selected file. This deletes the actual file, not the reference to it. It does warn you before deleting.
Refresh
Use the Refresh button when you have added new library files to the folder currently being displayed. The Files Found list is automatically updated (refreshed) when you exit and reopen this dialog.
Move and Copy
Move and Copy buttons are also provided, allowing you to move or copy individual files to another folder. These can be used, for example, if you wish to take a backup copy of a file before making major changes to it.
New Library
Use the New Library button to create a blank library file for each of the library types available in the Library Manager dialog. The dialog presented will ask you to supply one file name that will be used for all the new files.
Sort Alphabetically
Use this check box to sort the files in the folder in alphabetical order regardless of the folder they appear in. With it left unchecked, the files will be sorted in folder order then file type then name. Setting this check box only affects the files found list in the Folders list and has no bearing on any other library items found, such as in the Parts Editor list in the Library Manager or the Insert Component option for example.
Show Items in the Vault
When the Vault is in use, (see below), the Show item in the Vault can be used to display individual items found only in the Vault. Items found outside of the Vault will not be displayed. With this option left unchecked, items found in both the Vault and outside of it will be displayed.
Show only disabled files
The Show only disabled files is available on all folder pages that show lists of files, such as the Libraries page. With this selected, it will only list any disabled files. This gives you the ability to quickly view them in the list and re-enable them.
Edit
An Edit button is available for some file types and can be used to edit the selected file, such as Technology Files.
Folders and the Vault
If the Vault is in use, the special entry [Vault] will be automatically included in the Folder and Search Order list for those types of item that can be stored in the vault. This is a placeholder for all Vault based data and designates where in the search order vault items will be located relative to items stored in local files such as Pulsonix native libraries.
Normally [Vault] would be expected to appear at the head of the list so data from the Vault takes precedence, however there may be occasions where you wish a local item to be selected in preference, such as when working with items in the nominated Checked Out Library Folder.
Like the other entries in the list, the [Vault] entry can be enabled and disabled, but it is important to note that referenced vault items will always be located using their Vault ID and Version reference, rather than just by name like items from native libraries. This is the case even if a vault item has been copied or checked out into a native library. If a referenced item is reported as “can not be found” even though there appears to be a library item with the appropriate name it may be that it is the vault version of the item that can not be located if [Vault] is disabled.
For more information, refer to the Vault Users Guide which can be accessed within Pulsonix from the Help menu, Online Manuals > Vault Users Guide.
