How To Insert Text

  1. From the main menu select the Insert menu, from this select Text. This displays the Insert Text dialog:

  2. Type the required text into the dialog window. The text can be upper and lower case. By default, the text is single line and pressing Return will end the text entry. For multi-line text, press the icon to the right of the entry field. You can then type multi-line text, pressing Return at the appropriate places. You can use all the normal text editing facilities including copy and paste. The full ISO-Latin-1 character set is supported.

You can also add barred text (text with a ‘bar’ across the top of it) (also known as the NOT function) using the barring character (see Design Settings)

    On completion click OK.

  3. Choose the Text Style required from this drop down list. This will be one available as defined in your Technology - Text Styles dialog.

  4. In Schematics you can choose to put the text only on the current page (the default) or All Pages At This Level. This is useful for sheet outlines where the text is the same and in the same relative position on each page of the current hierarchy level.

In PCB you can change the Layer the text will be placed on.

  5. The text will then be positioned at the end of your cursor. Use the mouse to position the text at the exact location required. During positioning, you can Mirror or Rotate the text and also change the text Alignment and Style.

All these features are available on the right hand mouse shortcut menu.

  6. To release the text, click the mouse. This will release the current text item and put you back into the Insert Text dialog.

  7. To insert more text, press OK for the same text, or edit the existing text in the dialog and press OK to insert it.

  8. If at any time you do not require the current text you are positioning, click the Esc key and you will be put back into the Insert Text dialog.

Text in Variants

When using Design Variants text can be set to only appear in the required variants. (Note: It is also possible to use Variant Attributes to provide variant specific text in a design).
