This dialog is displayed during a Paste or Duplicate operation, when the data you are adding to the design contains named nets that already exist in the design. The dialog allows you to choose which nets are to be connected to those already present, and which are to be renamed so that they do not join existing nets.

What Is Resolved?

Net names which are “checked” in the list of net names are connected to existing nets of the same name. Nets which are unchecked in the list have a Rename applied to them based on the Rename criteria chosen.

The Resolving Net Names Process:

The first step is to identify those nets that need to be connected to existing nets. This is done by ‘checking’ the names of those nets in the list. To do this, you can either click on each of the checkboxes directly, or use the Select Items filters to help you quickly select and then check/ uncheck whole groups of nets in one go.

The next step is to define the Rename criteria to be applied the net names left unchecked in the list. Click on each of the radio buttons in the Rename area of the dialog below to get more information on how each one operates.

When you have chosen how you wish the nets to be resolved, press OK and the Paste or Duplicate operation will continue. The current settings for the Rename criteria will be preserved and used next time the dialog is displayed.

You can control the default actions for different net types using Options - Resolve Net Names. Using these options, you can also choose when this dialog is show, or when the default action can be performed without showing this dialog.
