How To Use Select Path
Use the Select Path command to put you into the Select Path mode. Select the start point of the path you wish to select. Move the mouse to the other end of the path you are selecting. Click again to complete the path. The selected segments are selected (the original segments will be broken into two segments if necessary). You can now reposition, change the style, etc. of the selected segments.
There is a quick method of using Select Path. This is enabled on the Select page of the Options dialog. Once this is enabled, you can simply select the start point and drag along the shape without entering the Select Path mode.
How To Insert A Segment
To insert a new segment, first use Select Path to drag along an existing segment.
Then drag the selected segment to create a “top hat” shape as shown below.
If you wish to select more of the shape, then simply drag further along the shape. Once the drag has been initiated and the shape segment picked up, the mouse movement will mimic the shape of the segment without having to follow it accurately.
Possible Uses for Select Path
Uses of this mode could include:
- Dragging parts of segments in a track or shape to insert new segments.
- Unroute a track between two points.
- Necking between two points (using the Select Path command on a track followed by Change Style to change the segment thickness).
- Pushing a section of track between two points to another layer.
- Serpentine a section of track between two points to increase its length.
