Unlike most other formats from external Pulsonix systems, Easy-PC For Windows design and library data can be read in using binary files saved from the Easy-PC program. This means that you do not need to do anything else in Easy-PC other than a Save or Save As. There is no ASCII output process to use before the files can be read into Pulsonix.
Supported Formats
Easy-PC For Windows including:
Project files
Schematic / PCB Technology files
Schematic / PCB Designs
Schematic / PCB Symbol libraries
Component libraries
Note: Panel Designs cannot be read into Pulsonix from Easy-PC.
Unsupported Formats
This transfer mechanism does not include any of the older Easy-PC DOS program formats (DOS/Pro/XM). If you have designs or libraries in any of these formats please contact our sales office or technical support desk for information on how to achieve this.
Which Files Are Required By Pulsonix?
There is no ASCII output process to use from Easy-PC so Pulsonix uses the binary format files as saved from the program. The list below provides you with a list of the files extensions to use for different transfer types:
Project files (*.prj)
Schematic Technology files (*.stf)
Schematic Designs (*.sch)
Schematic Symbol libraries (*.ssl)
PCB Technology files (*.ptf)
PCB Designs (*.pcb)
PCB Symbol libraries (*.psl)
Component libraries (*.cml)
Any other files of the same same but with different file extensions are not required or used by Pulsonix. If migrating to Pulsonix, you should backup all Easy-PC files and original data before importing the files into the new system (but you should already have backups of your data anyway !!).
How To Import The Data
As with most data types, you have two choices of import into Pulsonix; Data Transfer Wizard, and Open (for designs) or Add to Library through the Library Manager (for library files). The easiest method, especially if importing many files or libraries, is through the Data Transfer Wizard. For more information on using this feature click here Data Transfer Wizard.
The only Easy-PC For Windows files you cannot import through the Data Transfer Wizard are Projects. For these files you must use the standard Open mechanism. Detail of what happens during the conversion process is shown below.
Importing Easy-PC Project Files
During the transfer process of Projects, because of the differences between the Easy-PC and Pulsonix systems, Schematics are consolidated under one single design.
In this example, the project name is Project1 .prj with three schematic designs named page1.sch, page2.sch and page3.sch, which when translated to PCB, make one single PCB design named PCB design.pcb.
When converted to Pulsonix, the Project name is taken as the new schematic design name with each of the existing designs becoming Pages within the new design file. The PCB design file is converted separately.
When viewed using the Pulsonix design browser, the converted project files are see as shown on the left.
Schematics can also still be imported as individual designs, however using the ‘Open design’ method they loose their relationship as held in the Easy-PC Project file.
IMPORTANT NOTES ON PROJECTS
When importing projects, the design will be the same as the Project and not the Schematic designs within the original Project. This means the project name may not match the PCB name generated from it.
You should use the Design Browser option immediately after importing a Project so that you can see the Schematic pages within the new design.
If you only import Schematics designs using the ‘Open’ method, unless you combine all the Schematics sheets that would have been contained within one Project file, Synchronise Designs and other options will not function correctly.
