What is the Component Bin?

In PCB, the component bin is a holding area for components awaiting placement. The component retains all connectivity (but obviously not routed tracks). When you move a component to the bin, any routed connections to the footprint are unrouted, but the pins are still connected to the appropriate nets.

In Schematics, the component bin is used as a store of unused gates and components. Gates and components in the bin are not normally connected. When you move a gate or component to the bin, you are warned about any connected pins which will be disconnected. If the gate is the last one on a component, then any ungated pins will also become disconnected.

How to use the Move To Bin option

With the item(s) you wish to move to the Component Bin selected, right click the mouse and select Move To Bin from the shortcut menu. If any of the items are locked or routed, you will be given the option to continue or abort the operation. Multiple items may be moved simultaneously.

Component Bin and Autoplace

You also have an option within the Autoplace feature to place components in the Component Bin.
