Using the Edit Footprint Rules Attribute dialog

The Edit Footprint Rules Attribute dialog is displayed when the Edit button is pressed. The values that can be entered correspond to the columns shown under Footprint Criteria Attributes in the dialog.

Name

Enter the Attribute Name that is on the footprint which will be used to match the rule. The drop down list offers the current attribute names defined in the design but this is not an exclusive list and any name may be entered. The name used should already be on the footprint. The system-defined attribute can be used to match against the actual footprint name.

Attribute Value

Enter the Attribute Value that will be used to match the attribute value on the footprint. Wildcard characters may be used to match a range of values. For example, using *wave* will match any attribute value that contains the string of characters wave.

Is Essential

If the Is Essential option is checked, then in order to successfully match the rule, the footprint must contain the attribute and its value must match the value specified in the rule. Both must be a match.

If Is Essential is not checked, the footprint will match if:

  • it has the attribute and the attribute value matches the one in the rule, or
  • it does not have the attribute
