Using Dimension Text Properties Dialog

Select any part of a dimension (or several dimensions) and enter properties. Choose the Text tab and the following dialog is shown:

If the dimension is locked, none of the following values can be changed. To unlock, switch to the Dimension tab, unlock the dimension and return to the Arrows tab.

Use Default Position

When this box is checked the text is returned to its default position, centred between the arrows. If the dimension is moved or has its length altered the text is automatically adjusted to be in the centre position.

Uncheck to enable manual positioning. The Position, Angle, Mirror and Text Alignment fields can now be altered.

Avoid Arrow Line

Use this to force the default position for the text to be moved a little so that the arrow tail lines are not broken. Leave this box unchecked to have the text inserted into the arrow lines which conforms more to the ISO documentation standard.

Keep Above or to the Left

If you have checked the Avoid Arrow Line box, check the Keep Above or to the Left to force the default position for the text to be always above to to the left of the arrow tail lines. This conforms more to the DIN documentation standard. Leave it unchecked to force the text to the far side of the dimension arrow lines.

Auto Rotate Text

This option is available for default text. Use it to force the text rotation so that the text lies along the direction of the dimension. This is commonly used for radial dimensions, so there is a default for this in the Design Settings - Dimension Defaults dialog.

If the auto rotated text angle becomes greater than 180 degrees the text is adjusted by 180 degrees to make it more readable.

Position

Use this to position the text in an exact known position.

Angle

Use this to alter the orientation of the text. Type in the angle using the design’s Angle Units.

Mirror

If the dimension is to appear on the flip side of the board, you may wish to mirror the text so it is readable from the other side.

Text Alignment

Click on the preferred alignment. The text will move so that the new origin is at the text position.

Text Style

The style of the text is defined on the Text Style property tab.

Dimension Tolerance

The tolerance of the dimension text can be appended at its end. It is defined on the Dimension Tolerance property tab.
