How To Run A Design Rule Check

Spacing Checks

Use the check box next to the Spacing title to choose whether any checks on the space between items will be performed. Then, if spacing checks are required, choose which types of items you wish to perform spacing checks on.

  • Pads, Mount Holes, Copper, Text and Drills - these are standard DRC checks and when selected, the item types will be checked against all other items in the design in accordance with the Spacing Rules defined in the Design’s Technology data.

  • Panel Outlines - are checked against each PCB instance to make sure the PCB instance is not within the panel border. The panel border is defined in the Panel section in the Design Rules page of the Technology.

  • PCB Instances - are checked against each other using the “Board to Board” rule defined in the Panel section in the Design Rules page of the Technology.

Items included in the PCB instance that are outside of its board outline are also checked against other PCB Instances. For example you do not want a silkscreen outline in one PCB plotted over items in another PCB.

Manufacturing Checks

Use the check box next to the Manufacturing title to choose whether any manufacturing checks will be performed:

  • Tab-Routs - check Tab-routs according to the rules defined in the Panel section in the Design Rules. It also checks that all inside edges of each tab-rout is not inside the panel border.
  • V-Score Lines - check V-Scores according to the rules defined in the Panel section in the Design Rules.

On Grid Checks

Select the PCB Instance box to check if all PCB instances are on the special grid.

See the Grids help page for details on how to set up the special grid.

Other Check Boxes and Choices
