How To Edit A Symbol In A Design

Whilst in Select Mode or Edit Mode, select the required component, gate or doc symbol and right click the mouse and use Edit Symbol In Library from the shortcut menu.

The system will look for the symbol with the same name as the symbol used by the selected item, in the available symbol libraries. These libraries are defined using the Library Folders facility. If the symbol is found it is read from the library and opened for you to edit. If the symbol is not found you can use the Save Items To Library dialog to save it before editing.

This is just the same as if you used the Symbol Library Manager to edit the symbol, or Documentation Symbol Library Manager to edit the symbol. The technology file used for the symbol will be the current selected technology file from the library manager Schematic Symbols or Doc Symbols dialog.

How To Apply Changes Made To The Symbol

When you have altered the symbol, save it back into the library using Save To Library.

Switch back to the schematics or PCB design window that contains the selected component, gate or doc symbol. Right click the mouse to show the shortcut menu and use the Reload From Library option to load the changed symbol into the design.

Note: All items in the design that use this symbol name will be updated.

You cannot have different versions of the same named symbol within a schematics or PCB design.
