Duplicate is the process of copying the item or items selected and pasting it back into the design as a direct copy of the original. Any duplicate net names for named nets are displayed in a dialog for which you are requested to resolve them. Duplicate component names are automatically resolved without user intervention with the system incrementing to the next available name.

This function can be used on all design items except for Error Markers and Origins. Groups will be copied only if all items in the group are duplicated. The duplicated group name will be incremented.

If you want to create multiple copies of the selected items, use the Replicate function.

Resolve Net Names

The Resolve Net Names dialog is displayed during a Paste or Duplicate operation, when the data you are adding to the design contains named nets that already exist in the design. The dialog allows you to choose which nets are to be connected to those already present, and which are to be renamed so that they do not join existing nets.

Latch Mode

Duplicate can be used in Latched Mode allowing you to duplicate items simply by picking them.

Ctrl Drag To Duplicate

If the Ctrl key is pressed down, instead of going on to move the selection, you can simply drag an item (or selection) to start moving a copy of it.

Positioning the Duplicated Items

After duplicating the items you will enter Move mode with the duplicated items attached to the moving cursor. The delta coordinates on the status bar will show the position relative to the original items. Use left click to position the items in the required place.

Using Type Offset during move allows you to easily place the new data at an offset to its original data, and using Type Rotate during the move phase of the duplicate operation allows you to rotate the new data about a specific point by an angle relative to the original position.
