If a STEP model is associated with a component in the PCB design, the Generate Heights from STEP option can be used to extract the actual real height of the STEP model and setup the attribute in the Component Properties. The height of the model can be used when doing component height checks during a Design Rule Check for example.

If the attribute does not exist for the Components, then DRC will use the default Package if available, otherwise it will be set to Zero.

Using the Generate Heights from STEP option simply runs through all the Components in the design, checks the existence of a STEP model and then extracts the height information from it. It looks for any STEP models associated with a Component. If no STEP models exist in the design, the option is greyed out. If even just one STEP model exists, the option is available and will spin though all components in the design to extract the height. This process speeds up the addition of real height information to each Component by doing it for you.
