The Variants tab will appear on the Properties dialog when a design has variants defined and the selected item is allowed to be explicitly included or excluded from those variants, e.g. a Documentation Shape, Text or Text Callout item.

Using the Variants tab
Display the selected item’s Properties, then select the Variants tab to display the dialog below:
The table lists all design variants down the left hand side. The check boxes indicate whether the attribute is to appear in the variant in that row. The variant description is also shown as additional information.
By default, when first added, a design item is shown in all variants. To remove it from a given variant uncheck the appropriate check box.
Items defined as variant will only appear on screen, in print, Plot output and in other variant specific functions when the relevant variant is active.
