Copy out is used to obtain a read only copy of an item from the Vault when you just want to view or utilise it but do not wish to modify it.
Shortcuts
Default Keys:
Default Menu: File - Copy Out
Command: Copy Out
The Copy Out dialog
At the left side of the dialog is the tree of Vault folders showing the items contained in each of the folders.
Below this is a drop-down list of file types. Changing the selected entry in this list will refresh the tree view to only display folders that contain items of the selected type, to help you focus on the particular type of item you want to Copy Out.
Any items that are checked out are marked with an asterisk as shown below. An item that is checked out can still be copied out but you should be aware that a new version of the item can be checked in at any time.
Selecting items to copy out
You can copy out a single item by simply selecting it in the folder tree and clicking OK.
To copy out multiple items, use the Add and Remove buttons to build up the list of items to copy out. They will then be processed in one go when you click OK.
Check the Open Design checkbox to open the items in the application for viewing once they have been copied out the vault.
Note that while it is possible to edit an copied out item that is opened in the application and save it to the file system, it can not be checked back into the vault as it has not been checked out.
The Copy as New Item (Disconnect from Vault) option removes an items vault reference information as it is copied out. This allows the item to be subsequently added back to the vault as a completely new item, rather than as a new version of the original item. When it is checked in it will be allocated a new Vault Item ID which will distinguish it from the original and will also need to have its name changed as the Vault does not allow duplicate named items.
