Using the Find Tab

All of these options are saved to the registry, so they apply to all the designs you load into the application.

Action On Found Item

Choose what actions you want to perform on an item when it is found to help you see it.

  • Select It - Use this to select the found item, all other items will be deselected unless the Ctrl key is pressed when selecting the item.

  • Highlight It - Use this to highlight the found item in the highlight colour.

  • Brighten It - Use this to brighten the found item by drawing all other items in a dull grey colour.

  • Flash It - Use this to flash the found item for a short period. This can help you to see the item when the design is dense. The flash period can be set using another control on this dialog.

  • Centre View On It - Check this to always change the view so that the found item is in the centre of the display window. Leave unchecked to only change the view if the found item was not on the screen.

  • Allow Find Under Sliding Bar - Check this to allow found items to be under the find bar when it is not pinned. In this case you will have to let the bar auto hide again to see the found item, but this may be preferable to having the view changed.

If left unchecked, the view will be centred on the item under the bar to make the found item visible. This option only has any effect if the option Centre View On It is unchecked.

  • Add To Favourites List - Will add the found item to the end of the favourites list to make it easy to find again.

  • Highlight Invisible Items - Check this for the Highlight It action (described above) to additionally highlight found items that are otherwise not visible.

Highlighted tracks on non visible layers are shown using a patterned format so they are distinguishable from tracks on visible layers.

Finding Nets

Check the Include Default Nets box to include default nets in the Find Bar nets list. Leave unchecked to only find user named nets.

Finding Drill Size

Check the Use Drill Table Units box to display drill sizes in the Find Bar list using the units from the drill table. Leave unchecked to use the current design units.

Finding Error Markers

These switches control which error markers can be located using the Find Bar.

  • Include Locked Errors - Check this to find locked and unlocked errors. Leave unchecked to only find unlocked errors.
  • Only List Errors in the Design - Check this to only list the error codes of error markers that are currently in the design. Leave unchecked to list all the available error codes.

Finding Components

Setting this option allows you to drag a component from the Find Bar to ‘fetch’ it from elsewhere in the design or from the Component Bin. Note: in a Schematic design you will only be able to Fetch a component that is on the current page.

Flashing Items

One of the find options is to flash the found item for a set period. Use this edit box to set the flash time in seconds. The value must be between 0 and 20 seconds.

This period will also be used when flashing items using the three commands Flash Selection, Flash Highlights and Flash Errors. To use these functions add shortcut keys to them or add their icons to your toolbars using the customise option.

Favourites List

The finder bar maintains a list of Favourite Items, this list is saved with the design so you can keep track of items you often want to return to. In order to stop this list from becoming too large, use this edit box to limit the number of items in the list. The value must be between 10 and 200.

Dimming

One of the find options is to brighten the found item by dimming all other items. Check this box to dim all other items in their own colour. When unchecked, the items will all be dimmed in a dull grey colour.

Use the slider to adjust the intensity of the dimmed items. The Reset button resets the intensity to the default level.

Schematics

These switches only apply to a schematics design. Use the Search On All Pages option to force the Find Bar to look for items on all pages in the design, or uncheck it to only search the current page.

Variants

Use the Search In All Variants option to force the Find Bar to look for all variant design items such as components, text and attributes, irrespective of the variants in which they appear. Leave it unchecked to only search those items that appear in the current design variant.
