Pulsonix has its own system for security copies of designs, however, we STRONGLY recommend that you make regular backups of all Pulsonix designs, libraries, technology files, profile files, reports and security copies.
To aid this process we have put in-place some features in Pulsonix which will aid you or your system administrator to make backups on a daily / weekly / monthly etc. basis without much searching of the data. These features aid the collation of data and do not provide the backup mechanism itself (apart from the security copy feature of designs which is your design safeguard not a backup substitute).
If at any time you think you have lost or deleted Pulsonix files DO NOT shut down the Windows operating system. Call our technical support desk straight away. If you shut down the operating system there is a much stronger chance of not being able to recover the data because of the files Windows writes to disk during its shutdown process.
You can restore the contents of a design to an previously saved backup using the Restore Backup function.
What Is Provided with Pulsonix which assists backups?
Pulsonix provides a number of features within the software to ensure that your data is logical to locate and that the paths to critical data are defined.
-
Security Copies Of Designs - These are security copies of your design that are automatically generated after a set time interval if the file contents has changed. They provide the security of being able to save copies on a regular basis in case data is lost due to problems with Pulsonix or the operating system.
See the Design Backups page within the Options dialog, found on the Tools menu. This allows you to set an interval for automatic design security copies, and to indicate where these copies are located and the format of their file names.
-
Backup Copies On Saving Designs - These are copies of your design automatically created when you save it. They give you the security of being able to restore the design to one of the recently saved versions.
See the Design Backups page within the Options dialog, found on the Tools menu. Allows you to set how many copies of automatically generated backup files you want to keep, and to indicate where these copies are located and the format of their file names.
-
Restore Points - These are a specially labelled saved versions of a design. It is used to save a backup of the design in a known good state before starting on a session of further changes. Perhaps you are making a few design iterations or trying some ‘what if’ conditions and may need to get back to where you started from. The design can then be easily restored to a saved restore point that has the required name label.
See the Design Backups page within the Options dialog, found on the Tools menu. This allows you to indicate where these copies are located and the format of their file names.
-
Design File Locations - these can be anywhere you like but Pulsonix can be pre-set to locate files at startup.
-
Other File Locations - see the Folders feature on the Setup menu. The following file folders can be used:
- Library File Locations - the search path of the all library files used in Pulsonix.
- Technology File Locations - the search path of the all technology files used in Pulsonix.
- Profile File Locations - the search path of the all profile files used in Pulsonix.
- Format File Locations - the search path of the all format files used in Pulsonix.
From an administration point of view, this means that all the data to be ‘used’ within Pulsonix must be defined on one of the above Paths otherwise the program does not use it.
You may also have files elsewhere which are not currently used and these should be identified to the system administrator if backups are required.
