Use Insert Board to interactively create a board outline by drawing it in the design. This mode allows you to add a board outline using one of three shape styles provided: Rectangle, Circle, Ellipse and Polygon. Board outlines are created using an unfilled shape which is closed (non-intersecting and ending at the start point). These shapes can be edited after being added to move, add and remove corners.

Which Layers Are Board Outlines Inserted On ?
Board outlines created with this function are added onto All layers. However, you can control which types of layers on which boards are visible through the Layer Class. This may mean that you cannot see the board outline with some combinations of layers visible. For checking purposes the board outline is on every layer, regardless of visibility.
Adding Board Outlines
You can insert Board Outlines from one of the shapes (Polygon, Rectangle, Circle, Ellipse) available on the Insert menu. The Insert Board Polygon icon is supplied on the PCB Toolbar by default but can be changed as required.
Adding a Board using Coordinates
While adding a board outline to your design, you can right click at any time and from the context menu select the Type Coordinate option. This option allows you to type an X and/or Y position. It means that a coordinate can be typed by simply using the ”=” key (the default shortcut key for Type Coordinates) then your coordinate, say “500”, followed by the < Enter > key. This will add the board outline corner at that location. If you wish to add a Y coordinate, press the < Tab > key after pressing the ”=” key to tab into the Y entry box.
With Insert Board Polygon you can enter a series of coordinates for a board outline by using the Apply button or typing the < Space > key between them. Finish the shape by pressing the Finish button or typing the ”=” key after the last corner.
Adding a Board using Offset Coordinates
As with the Type Coordinates option (above), when adding a board outline, you can also choose Type Offset from the context menu. This will allow you to type an offset for the corner to placed relative to its current position. If the start point has not been defined yet you will first be asked for the coordinates of the start position. Using Type Offset again will then allow you to enter the offsets for the next corner.
With Insert Board Polygon you can enter a series of offsets for board outline corners by using the Apply button or typing the < Space > key between them. Finish the shape by pressing the Finish button or typing the ”=” key after the last offset.
Multiple Board Outlines
It is possible to create designs which use multiple board outlines. However, the autorouter option cannot run with more than one board outline. If this is required it is advisable to use one board outline to surround the complete outline of the design and use smaller routing areas to create areas to be routed within each of the individual boards themselves.
Cutouts in Boards
You cannot add additional board outlines to act as cutouts. If you require cutouts, use the Insert Cutout feature on the Insert menu. In Pulsonix cutouts really are cutouts within the board outline and other features within Pulsonix understand how to interact with them.
Board in Profile Files
Once you have created your new board outline it can be saved as a Profile file for use again in another design. To do this choose the Save Profile from the Setup menu.
Flexi-Rigid Boards
It is possible to create boards with different shapes within the layer stack, see the section on Flexi-Rigid Boards.
Max board Size
In theory, the largest board that can be created in Pulsonix is 10m x 10m or just under slightly as this is the max design size, see here for more information.
